Existing Land Use
An existing land use map of the township was prepared on a parcel level basis by the county planning commission staff (see Map 26). Table 33 offers a summary of the various categories of existing land use identified and the percentages of land area that each specified use encompasses. The major land use categories include:

Existing Zoning
Per the 1999 zoning map, 92% of the township is zoned for residential use. The industrial/commercial district occupies about 8% of the township's land base (see Table 34 and Map 27). Table 34 also provides information on the minimum lot area and lot width required in each zoning district.

Existing Township Zoning In Geauga County
In relation to the other townships in Geauga County, Burton Township's percentage of land zoned for residential purposes ranks it twelfth overall (92.2% or 13,747 acres). Land zoned for industrial and commercial uses are combined into one district (I-C). This area represents 7.8% or 1,166 acres of land in Burton. Only two other townships in the county have more land combined zoned for industrial and commercial purposes (see Table 38 and Map 28).
